Gardeners

Every garden needs tending to stay beautiful, and Ma.gnolia is no exception. We take great pride in the professionalism and integrity of our members. But, as with any social phenomenon, there are spoilers. In our case, it's spammers.

What is Spam?

We look at spam as a type of abusive behavior, and use the following guidelines to identify it. To us, spamming is:

  • Posting links exclusively or overwhelmingly to the same website.
  • Sending messages that offer improbable business deals, request personal or financial information, and unsolicited promotion of a product or service.
  • Posting links with overtly misleading tags and/or other metadata.
  • Posting unrelated links to discussions, blog comments and groups.

Gardeners to the Rescue

As you see different people's profiles in Ma.gnolia, you may see this nice garden trowel beside their name: gardener_large.png

That tells you the person is a Ma.gnolia Gardener. Gardeners are members asked to help manage spam. We've given them the tools to hide spam bookmarks from public views, like the recent bookmarks list and searches. Bookmarks hidden from public view are also hidden from Google and other search engines, removing the benefits sought in adding bookmark spam. Except for the simple thrill of saving bookmarks, of course :)

How Gardeners Are Chosen

We selected a very small number of people to start the Gardeners program. Each Gardener receives one golden invitation that, when accepted, turns another member into a Gardener. There are no take-backs or do-overs, so each invitation must be sent with care.

What About Abuse by Gardeners?

Anyone who feels unfairly treated can write to us at support@ma.gnolia.com and we'll investigate.
